Celebrating International Women’s Day with Gloucestershire Schools

The Isbourne Trio are passionate about the importance of music in schools so we were delighted to be asked to work with students at The King’s School in Gloucester to mark International Women’s Day 2025.

We arrived at the beautiful Ivor Gurney Hall to meet students who had been working hard to learn some of our pieces from ‘She-Notes’. A wonderful afternoon was then spent coaching their chamber ensembles on compositions by Dilys Elwyn-Edwards, Margaret Garwood and Elizabeth Machonchy. All three of us were so impressed with their dedication and committment to the music and were able to work in great detail on the pieces!

The day culminated in a collaborative International Women’s Day concert, featuring the Isbourne Trio together with student ensembles. All the works performed were by female composers. Even more wonderful was to see the junior students embracing this too!

Students performed their own independent works as well as some joining us as a trio. The whole day was a truly creative experience and we are excited to extend this type of project into educational settings around the country!
